No One Saw This Coming

The beauty world is really doubling down on creativity which has unlikely brands and influencers collaborating in a move to surprise and delight. I’ve seen a bunch of cool new products that are the result of collaborations and I figured it’s time to highlight on these unlikely duos. Here’s some interesting things I’ve seen:

Pat McGrath x Supreme

Pat McGrath x Supreme

In one of the most unexpected moves this year, Supreme unveiled a collaboration with Pat McGrath as a part of their Fall 20 collection. Supreme shares their entire collection ahead of weekly release dates. A few years ago there was a rumor about Supreme creating a lipstick. I believe an image leaked that showed a black tube of red lipstick. Maybe that was the Pat McGrath lipstick in comp packaging but who could say. Pat created a custom blue- based red color in her MatteTrance lipstick formula. This product is sure to sell out however I’m hoping the predominantly male Supreme-heads will let the ladies have this one.

Ouai x Byredo

Ouai’s cult favorite Super Dry Shampoo gets a fragrance update with a collaboration with Byredo. The dry shampoo is scented with Byredo’s iconic Mojave Ghost—notes of Ambrette, Magnolia, Sandalwood, Violet, Cedarwood, Chantilly Musk and Crisp Amber. This universally flattering scent complements Ouai’s dry shampoo formula which uses volcanic minerals and rice starch to soak up oil. The scent of Ouai’s products already had a cult following. The brand even released a set of four fragrances that smells like their fan-favorite products.

Revlon & Megan Thee Stallion

Byredo Beauty

On August 11, Revlon announced their newest Global Ambassador: Megan Thee Stallion. Perfectly timed after the release of her massive collaboration with Cardi B on their song WAP. Her partnership with Revlon took me by surprise for a couple of reasons. 1. I didn’t think Revlon had it in them, and 2. Megan is relatively underground and far less of a mainstream, commercial artist that I’d expect Revlon to work with. Revlon released a statement where they said they were drawn to Megan’s “confidence and fierce ambition”—which is definitely accurate. Megan is super fierce, no bullshit and absolutely owns her look. Hopefully this will prove to be a positive move for both parties.

Byredo Beauty

Byredo’s on this list again! They announced an upcoming beauty line in collaboration with famed MUA Isamaya Ffrench. Byredo has been teasing some Dazed Beauty-like, iconoclastic imagery featuring strange 3D-designed people. WWD released images of the packaging and no surprise but they’re rather bizarre looking. The collection is set to launch on October 1 and is reportedly clean formulas.
