Finding Routine in a Pandemic: Focus & Zen
The Nue Co. Functional Fragrance - This is an anti-stress supplement delivered in the form of a unisex fragrance.
We always knew beauty was for ourselves, not anyone else. If there was any doubt to this I think it’s been erased while we’ve been in quarantine. Those of us who partake in makeup and skincare do it because we want to. We find comfort, creativity, self-expression and beyond. Something that I’d like to explore further is the idea of comfort and routine in beauty and skincare. After all, in these uncertain times a routine offers some semblance of normalcy—something I feel we’re all desperately clinging on to.
I’m reminded of one of the trends projects I worked on at Beamly that I’d like to share. We explored the idea of “Focus and Zen” for January-July 2020. We defined it as:
As the overall wellness trend seeps into beauty, morning and evening beauty routines will become a means of meditation. These rituals will serve as a moment of mindfulness meant to help us start our day or wind down in the evening. Small but mindful moments are important and can boost happiness.
We then translated this concept into different categories:
IGK Antisocial - Overnight hair mask that contains an aromatherapy element meant to help users fall asleep and stay asleep.
PRODUCTS
Products will promote mindfulness; intentionally cause us to slow down, to think, to take a moment. Products will be sold as part of a routine or regimen. Sleep becomes a new "beauty moment" to tap into.
COLOR COSMETICS
The routine of applying makeup, for some, is a constant in the morning and can be an act of self-care. Being conscious of makeup ingredients, and going the more natural route as a means of self-care will be the future for makeup within this trend.
HAIR
Hair care or color regimens will encourage relaxation or mindfulness. Aromatherapy will be infused into products to promote calmness or relaxation.
NAILS
Doing your nails at home gets a mindful upgrade: cuticle oil will double as aromatherapy, nail care regimens will include masks. Nail care and polish may be infused with crystals or CBD. Hand care also comes to the forefront.
FRAGRANCE
Fragrance will move beyond traditional delivery systems: consider functional alternatives to the spritz. For example: inhalables, fragrance patches, wearable diffusers, functional fragrances and room mists.
